GCA - Guest Controller Approval


What is the GCA?

GCA stands for Guest Controller Approval and allows users from foreign divisions to provide ATC services in Bolivian positions. There are permanent GCAs and temporary GCAs designed for special occasions such as events.

1. Requirements for application

Hold an ADC rating or higher at the time of application.
Bear in mind that:

  • The candidate shall be proficient in Spanish, English and ICAO phraseology.
  • The GCA check will take place on an Approach position. The GCA entitles the user to connect on APP positions or below. APC rating holders wishing to conenct as CTR will perform a second checkout on the ACC.
  • The candidate is expected to be familiarized with local procedures and non-radar separation.

2. Application process

Send an e-mail to bo-training@ivao.aero under “GCA Application” stating your name, VID, availability and the ATC position you would like to be checked on . The check itself will consist of some questions regarding local procedures and conventional separation followed by an ATC session.

3. Requirements to keep your Bolivian GCA current

The Ivao Bolivia division reserves the right to withdraw valid GCA licenses in Bolivian territory if the holder does not meet the minimum useful participation required or its performance is not up to standard.
Requirements:

  • Minimum connection time: 12h every four month period. Connection times will be checked on: (15/FEB, 15/JUN, y 15/OCT) First check will be performed at the end of the next whole period after the GCA granting. (E.g.: should you obtain your GCA on January, connection times will not be checked until June). Those 11 hours can be spread as you like along the period.
    Additionally, despite the GCA allowing you to connect on any ATC position and timeframe; only those hours complying with the following will be taken into account towards the 11h minimum:
    • Connections between 19Z and 04Z+1 on weekdays. Between 13Z and 06Z+1 on weekends (incl. Fridays) and Bolivian bank holidays.
    • Connections on Approach positions ( _APP) ; CTR or SLET_TWR. Unless the connection takes place during an event or special occasions.

The GCA holder shall have full Access to Ivao Bolivia´s communications, training system, resources and awarding.
