GCA - Guest Controller Approval

What is GCA?

GCA stands for Guest Controller Approval and allows users from foreign divisions to provide ATC services within Bolivian airspace. There are permanent GCAs and temporary GCAs for specific occasions such as events.

1. Application requirements

ADC rating or higher at the time of application, except for Bolivian citizens.

Please note:

• The applicant must be proficient in Spanish, English, and standard ICAO phraseology.
• The assessment will be conducted in an approach position. The GCA will allow connection in approach positions or lower. APC-rated controllers who wish to operate in CTR positions must complete a second assessment in the ACC position.
• The candidate is expected to be familiar with local procedures and basic non-radar separation concepts.

2. Application process

Send an email to bo-training@ivao.aero with the subject “GCA Application”. Include your name and VID, and your motivation for joining us. Also specify the position where you would like to take your GCA exam and your availability. The assessment will consist of a series of questions about local procedures and conventional separation, followed by a practical controlling session.

3. Requirements to maintain your GCA

The IVAO Bolivia division reserves the right to withdraw valid GCA privileges within Bolivian airspace if the holder does not meet the minimum required activity or performance standards.

Requirements:

• Minimum connection time: 12h per quarter.
  
  Activity will be reviewed on the following dates: (15/FEB, 15/JUN, and 15/OCT). The first review will take place at the end of the quarter following the GCA assignment. (For example, if the GCA is granted in January, it will be reviewed in June). The required 11 hours can be completed in a single month or distributed over the three months.
  
  Additionally, although the GCA allows connection anywhere and at any time, only sessions meeting the following conditions will count toward the minimum 11 hours:
  • Connections between 19Z and 04Z+1 on weekdays. Between 13Z and 06Z+1 on weekends (including Fridays) and Bolivian holidays.
  • Connections in approach positions (IVAO _APP), CTR, or SLET_TWR. In case of events or requests, any position will be valid.
